The Perfect Pink Pout | Zoella Kissy Missy Lip Balm

Friday, 9 October 2015

I know, I know! I'm mahossively late to the Zoella beauty scene and to be honest I've had this lip balm since the beginning of Summer but just haven't gotten round to blogging about it yet-despite wearing it most days. I'm sure most if not all of you will be up to speed on Zoella's range of beauty products, the Tutti Frutti Collection which follows her very successful previous range. This is a quick post about my thoughts on the Kissy Missy Lip balm which you can buy from most Superdrug stores for as little as £3.00! (complete bargain).

I am going to start by admitting that as a lip balm, its not the best. It is nice on the lips and doesn't dry them out but if you have super dry lips and are looking for an effective lip balm this probably isn't for you. However, if you are looking for a highly pigmented, easy to apply lip product that doesn't dry out the lips then this is definitely for you. The colour is just beautiful and I think its a suitable colour for all year round- not just for summer. Yes it looks pretty scary in the pot, a bright shocking pink colour beaming at you but the beauty of this is that its a buildable colour- you can get a soft baby pink from one layer or add more to get a bolder brighter pink.

If you are wanting to step out of your comfort zone like me and test out a bolder colour then this is great. Its easy to apply- I just use my fingers and dab it in and once you get more confident wearing it, you can up the intensity. I've also found its great for going from day to night make up if you don't have time to redo your makeup.

I am currently trying to get hold of the new lip balm duo, that Zoella has recently brought out as part of an almost Christmas Gift Range, as I'm that obsessed with this one! Unfortunately it's been sold out everywhere including online for what seems like forever. Watch out for an update if I ever get hold of it.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below on the Kissy Missy Lip balm and if any if you have managed to get your hands on the new additions!

Simple Halloween Makeup #1

Saturday, 3 October 2015

Hello! I'm so excited to be writing my first Halloween post. There are a few more on the way including a spooky hot chocolate recipe and some more makeup looks which I'm equally as excited about.

This is such an effective look and is so easy to do. I found this look on pinterest and couldn't resist having a go myself. There were no step by step instructions that I could find so this is my attempt at recreating the look and the following steps are how I did it. I'm not really sure what you would call this look but It's super easy and you could do so many different adaptations of this. I used some black cream face make up from a local fancy dress store. You can find these in most supermarkets too and if not, you could try using a black eyeliner.

1. Fill the entire lid with black eye shadow and smudge out

2. Apply black eyeliner to the lash line

3. Fill in the eyebrow with black eye shadow creating a sharp dramatic brow

4. Make 4 dots in a diamond shape around your eye to outline the furthest points where you want your black lines to reach. This will be your guide.

5. From your eye draw lines outwards in any direction. You can do long or short strokes in any direction.

6. Now add lines going across, making sure to join up around the eye

7. Keep adding lines until you are happy with the result.

8. Add lots of mascara, or fake eyelashes if you wish.

9. Apply a lip liner and a lipstick of your choice to finish the make up look

I chose only to do this around one eye but I think it would look equally effective around both. I swept my hair to one side and secured it with a couple of Kirby grips and used a little hairspray to get rid of any flyaways.

That's it! Really simple and can be adapted easily to suit your look. I think it would be good for someone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money dressing up and wants to do something fairly subtle. Hope you enjoyed this! I had so much fun creating this look.

Let me know what you think in the comments below and what you are planning to do for Halloween!

Let's Get Nude

Thursday, 10 September 2015

Ok, ok so the title of this post may be a little misleading haha. I have recently found a new favourite nude nail varnish that I have been wearing a lot lately. Its Rimmel's 60 seconds Super Shine in the colour Let's Get Nude.

My Evening Skincare Routine

Tuesday, 25 August 2015

Hello again! Sorry it's been a while, I've taken a little break as there have been bereavements in the family and as I'm not quite at the stage of scheduling posts in advance this little blog became low down on the to-do list. Anyway this is my evening skincare routine! Prepare yourself for a long one as I am a bit of skincare obsessive and like to go into detail. So I'd suggest that getting a cup of tea, green juice (if you have that healthy living thing down) or like me, a gin and tonic may be a good idea right about now.

New fragrances from The Body Shop

Wednesday, 5 August 2015

Once upon a time, Chrissy had a little spare time in town before heading home and wandered into The Body Shop. A mystical spell came over her and she found herself walking out over half an hour later with a bag full of goodies . . . Okay, so it didn't quite happen like that, but seriously I went in just beacuse it was there (you know how it happens) and ended up with a new fragrance, a cleanser and a bb cream. In my defence, I had a code to get £10 off a £25 spend so obviously I had to use it.

A guide to beauty samples

Tuesday, 21 July 2015

If you are anything like me then walking around boots or other beauty department stores makes you want to buy everything and it can be way too easy to spend a small fortune that you don't have. Being a student these past 4 years has meant that I have had to be really careful with how I spend my money.  So when it comes to beauty products that cost the same as a small weekly shop I like to try before I buy. Hello and welcome to the world of samples and testers!! I know a lot of people don't like asking for samples or don't even know that you can so I thought I would put together a small guide as to why you should get them and how.

1. ALWAYS SAMPLE FOUNDATIONS

If you are going to be spending your hard earned money on your foundation then I highly recommend getting a sample first. You need to test it out for yourself at home along with the rest of your makeup to see if its right for you. You get a chance to see it in different lighting and check out how long it lasts and overall if its right for you! Most makeup counters will offer to colour match you there and then and then that's the time where you can ask for a sample to try it out at home.

2. WHATS THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN?

Some people I know feel a little awkward asking for samples but really what's the worse that can happen? They say no? Well from experience they either say yes, no we have ran out but come back next week or no unfortunately we don't do samples. Then you just smile, say thanks and walk away. Simple as :) Remember you are the customer so you shouldn't feel pressured to buy anything there and then. Take your time and enjoy shopping around.

3. SHOW AN INTEREST

Although samples are free, it does cost the company a lot and so they are not going to give them away willy nilly (yes you read that right). You need to show an interest in a product or the brand and most  companies will help you out as best as they can. Usually if they see you browsing they will ask if they can help you, if not ask them for their advice (it's their job). Basically don't just walk up to the counter and ask for a sample, be polite and feel free to talk about what you are looking for.

4. FREE MINI FACIALS

Ok so I may have exaggerated this title a little. Basically, most skincare counters such as Clarins, Clinique and Origins will offer a consultation where they will use their products on you. They sometimes call this a mini facial but its pretty much them putting on the products you would do yourself at home whilst explaining what each product does etc. You can arrange it for a later date and it gives you the opportunity to try out the whole range. So for example, a cleanser, toner, serum and moisturiser. Sometimes my friends and I would all go and get it done at the same time if we were having a girly day and wanted to test some things out.

5. GET SAMPLES FOR TRAVELLING

Ok so this one is a bit of a cheat but if I am going away on holiday or travelling somewhere I have asked for samples  because they are great for travelling! It saves so much room not having to take the big bottles and tubs of everything and just use the mini ones. Some samples come in little pots (body shop do great ones) so you can reuse them and just decant your own products into them for travelling. Also I got a tester of some perfume in a tiny little spray which I now use for nights out as its so small it fits into every evening bag.

6. GET SAMPLES ONLINE

If you really don't feel comfortable asking for samples face to face or don't have the time to be talking to do so then some companies offer free samples of products online in which they post out to you. If you cant find the service on their website you can always ask them on twitter. Most beauty brands are good at replying to tweets so it's a good way to communicate and ask a quick question.

I'm going to leave it there as I realise this post is getting fairly long. Hope these tips have opened your eyes to the world of beauty samples. Do you have any tips of your own?
